SLRU ends SLAJ Presidential Debate

The Sierra Leone Reporters Union Monday ended the debate for Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates ahead of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) national executive election. It is the second time of the holding of such a debate by members of SLRU. 

The debate which witnessed the incumbent SLAJ President Umaru Fofanah and the suspended National Secretary General Mustapha Sesay, showcasing reasons to have either of the two voted for, also brings to light persons vying for Vice Presidency in the association. 

Sheik Bawoh and Williette John, all of whom are candidates contesting for Vice Presidency, separately highlighted their plans for the association should they be voted for. 

It must be noted that SLAJ will on the 24th – 26th honour constitutional compels in the holding of an executive elections biennially. Aspirants are said to have engaged minds of delegates in the enhancement of their votes come the day of elections- “oh what a good principle,” an observer said.

The debate however ended peacefully with aspirants observed giving a hand shake to each other. 

It must be noted however that the exact purpose of the debate is to enable aspirants explain to the entire membership of SLAJ the plans they have for the association. 

In his statement, the President of Sierra Leone Reporters Union, Mohamed Massaquoi said it is the second time his union has embarked on such a debate, and that it is about enhancing a unified Sierra Association of Journalists.
