The people Koidu City are currently under siege after discovering that the only bridge that links the city to the outside world; Congo Bridge at 555 Sport in the city has developed serious cracks and may crumble anytime from now, cutting off the rest of the city from essential supplies vehicular transport into and out of the city.

The bridge which is the only motorable road leading in and out of the city; located on Masingbe Road has got serious cracks on it that is feared will soon give way under the many heavy duty machines and vehicles plying that route. Earlier this year, youths in the area galvanized community support for the repairs of the falling bridge wherein certain rehabilitation was carried out on it with funds and labour from the people of the immediate community where the bridge is located. The efforts though of the youths according to Komba Sogbe a youth leader in the community was reversed during the rainy season when the repairs made by the youths gave way to the weather.

The youth leader told Sierra Express that “many representations have been made to both the District and City Councils but that the authorities complain of a lack of funds to tackle the issue even though its life threatening,” Sogbe said.

During a visit to both councils, the authorities promised to do their best to solve the problem but reported about the limited funding that is rocking the administration of both councils. Taxes collected it was found out was not sufficient to deal with growing problems in the country’s most affected district after the war.

Visits were paid to the various areas where development and infrastructural programmes are claimed to have been undertaken by the central and local government but the results gathered were appalling. Many link bridges and culverts constructed by the councils have crumbled, making the road networks in the district and the township regrettable. Some of the schools constructed by the Sababu projects have been raised to the ground owing to low quality of the construction.

The road leading to the District is the most deplorable one now in the country amongst all those linking the four major cities. Although there is news according to revelation from the Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana the road construction project will soon kick off.
