15 Leone Stars foreign-based players expected in Niamey on Wednesday

15 Leone Stars foreign-based players expected in Niamey on Wednesday

Fifteen Leone Stars foreign based players are expected to arrive in Niamey on Wednesday for the team’s 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Niger at 15:00GMT on Sunday.

This was confirmed by the Leone Stars Assistant coach Christian Cole and the Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Sorie Ibrahim Sesay.

According to Coach Cole (in photo) , the players will start to jet in Niamey in morning hours and all of them will be in the Nigerian capital city before the day ends.

The 15 players are among 19 overseas players invited by the Leone Stars Swedish coach Lars Olof Mattsson for the Niamey showdown.

Already three of the overseas players are in Niamey and they are the Swedish-based trio of Mohamed Bangura alias Porbosky, Ibrahim Bangura known as Tetteh and Ibrahim Koroma alias Marcel.

Two unattached players at the moment Mohamed Kallon and Mohamed Kabia known as Daddy Drogba are also in Niamey as part of the squad.

Three among the 15 players expected on Wednesday will be honouring their first call-up to the Leone Stars team.  They are 18-year old Khalifa Jabbie who made a winning debut in the Norwegian league last Monday for Fredrikstad FK, goal keeper Patrick Bantamoi based in Holland, and Mohamed Kamara alias Medo of the Serbian Champions Partisan Belgrade.

One of the invited foreign-based players Gibrilla Sankoh who is playing second tier football in Germany for Augsburg is still doubtful.
