BAM International, the operating company of Dutch construction and engineering giant Royal BAM Group active outside Europe, has won in a (50/50) joint venture with Stefanutti Stocks (a large construction group from South Africa) the contract to construct 37 navigation aid structures and two mooring dolphins in Pepel (close to Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown) on the Sierra Leone river.

These works form part of the rehabilitation of a loading facility for iron ore. Client is African Minerals Ltd. The contract value is €16 million.

Special equipment includes BAM’s own crane barge Marlin to drive the 60-metre-long piles. The barge will be transported from Amsterdam to Sierra Leone for this project in June 2011.
