Leone Stars delegation arrives safely in Niamey to face Niger
A 17-man Leone Stars delegation has safely arrived in Niamey to honour their African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Mena of Niger scheduled for Sunday, March 27 2011. (Photo: Leone Stars Mohamed Kallon)
The delegation comprises of 5 players and 12 officers including two Sports journalists Osman Kamra (Tumac Radio) and Kemoh Sesay (Exclusive Newspaper) and was led by the Minister of Sports Paul Kamara.
The officers and players left Freetown onboard Royal Air Marocco on Sunday at 2:30 am and arrived at the Mohamed VI airport in Casablanca six hours later
On arrival at the Casablanca airport, the team was taken to the Atlas hotel and were nicely treated. After 12 hours in Casablanca, the team left at 12:30 am on Monday and arrived at the Niger International airport at 4 am.
The delegation was transported to the Tenere hotel where they are currently staying in a bus owned by the Niger Football Association.
The five players in the delegation are Mohamed Kallon, the Sweden-based trio of Mohamed Bangura, Ibrahim Bangura and Ibrahim Koroma and Mohamed Kabia who scored Leone Stars only goal against Nigeria’s Super Eagles last month in a friendly International in Lagos.
16 other foreign players are expected to join the team in Niamey and they are due to start arriving on Tuesday.
The two journalists are sent by the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) and their trip was financed by the leading sports betting company in Sierra Leone Mercury International.
Leone Stars are currently third in the group behind South Africa and Niger and ahead of the reigning African Champions Egypt.
