President Koroma launches ‘Yes’ project

As part of numerous moves by his administration to alleviate the long suffering of youth, youthful President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Thursday launched the Sierra Leone Youth Employment Support Project at the Miatta Conference Centre Youyi Building Brookfields Freetown.

Jointly funded by the Government and the World Bank, the project is expected to cater for over launching of the scheme marked the beginning a comprehensive focus to address youth problems in the country.

Delivering a keynote address prior to the commissioning of the project, President Koroma made it clear that the move is a start in the right direction though it is not going to be immediately solved.

Gainful engagement and employment of youth has been a major policy objective of his government saying; ‘my government’s Agenda for Change places youth employment as a core outcome on the huge investment we are making on the prioritized sectors of agriculture, infrastructure, energy and human development. We are also committed to macro-economic stability, economic growth rate and the development of the private sector’.

These he said is believed to lead to the creation of employment that would eventually absorbed a good number of unemployed youth, whiles calling on the Ministry of Youth Employment and Sport to work in partnership with the National Youth Commission.

Government in the words of President Koroma would endeavor to provide the required support for the Sierra Leone Youth Employment Support Project.

Earlier, Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Samura Kamara observed that the project has very good features for which he expressed government’s profound gratitude to the World Bank and other donors.

The Finance and Economic Development described that project as an emergency respond to problem of youth unemployment in Sierra Leone, adding that a solid foundation has been laid for a growing economy as encapsulated in the Agenda for Change.
