Ivory Coast without Fae for Nations Cup qualifier

Ivory Coast and Nice midfielder Emerse Fae will miss the rest of the French 2010/11 season with a thigh injury.

It means the 27-year-old will not be available for his country in this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier either.

Doctors confirmed the extent of the injury after tests were held on his sore thigh.

“We have received the result from his medical tests and it is not good news,” Nice coach Eric Roy said.

“He has a serious thigh injury. So we have lost him for the rest of this season.

“We are very sad for him and by extension for us. He is our second long-term injury absence and our thoughts are with him.”

He will miss next week’s French Cup semi-final clash with Lille and will not play a part in the rest of the league season.

His absence is a major blow for Ivory Coast ahead of their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Elephants are due to play Benin this month in Group A in Abidjan – they are currently first in the table.

Fae will be hoping to return to action for the match after that, which is the return fixture in Cotonou – scheduled for the first weekend in June.

His absence is a blow for Nice who are battling against relegation from the French top-flight.

Fae has made 24 appearances for Nice this season and scored three goals.
