Director of Center for Democracy and Human Rights and four others indicted for corruption

The Director of Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR) in Makeni, Gibril Massie Bah has been indicted on Friday 11th March 2011  on  22 counts  charge under the Anti-Corruption Act 2008.

Also indicted are Mustapha Keikula, former Admin/Finance Officer on 18 counts, Brima Jalloh, former Office/Programme Manager on 8 counts, Alice Mabinty Kargbo, Project Manager on 4 counts and Chernor S. Bah, Assistant Field Officer on 5 counts charge.

The offences include Misappropriation of Donor Funds contrary to Section 37 (1) and Abuse of Office by Conferring Advantage contrary to Section 42 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008. The total amount misappropriated is one hundred and eighty one million, nine hundred and thirty seven thousand five hundred Leones (Le 181,937,500)

Three of the accused- Gibril Massie Bah, Mustapha Keikula and Alice Mabinty Kargbo were arrested on the same day and arraigned in the High Court in Makeni presided over by Justice Sam Margai.

They were granted bail in the sum of three hundred million Leones each with one surety and matter adjourned to Wednesday 16th March 2011.  The 2nd and 4th accused persons Brima Jalloh and Chernor S. Bah did not appear.

This is the second corruption case to be tried in Makeni since the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission. The first being the former Bursar of Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School, Makeni Alpha Turay. The Commission does not only seek to prosecute corrupt individuals but also ensure that justice is seen to be done.
