The political situation in Egypt and Sierra Leoneans living there
The Government of Sierra Leone has taken note of the political unrest and demonstrations going on in the Egypt for the past two weeks, and wishes that this difficult phase in that country’s history will soon be over.
Government is fully aware that there are several Sierra Leoneans living in Egypt either as ordinary residents or students. However, Government has at present not received any report that their lives are in danger or that they wish to relocate or be relocated.
It is therefore essential that while Government continues to monitor the situation through regular diplomatic and other contacts, the issue of Sierra Leoneans living in Egypt should not be politicized through derogatory statements against the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Government wishes to reiterate that it wholeheartedly stands by the Sierra Leonean people in Egypt and advices them to remain calm and law-abiding, while assuring all that should the need arise to intervene on their behalf, either by way of relocation or security, the necessary modalities would be put in place to that effect.
