Speech delivered by Dep. Minister of Information & Communications, Sheka Tarawalie, on the launch of Kedar Faith Television

Wednesday 26 January, Miatta Conference Hall, Freetown – Mr. Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Kedar Faith Television, Rev. Sukai Mahdi, Bishops, Reverends, Pastors, men and women of God, distinguished Ladies Gentlemen,

I have the honour to represent my Minister of Information and Communications, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, who is unavoidably absent at this ceremony.  He has asked me to convey his heart felt gratitude and appreciation for giving him the honour to launch Kedar Faith television.

One thing I am sure of is that God does not make mistakes.  It is therefore no mistake that I, the son of a Reverend, should be the one to do this official launching.

We are here today to witness another very important milestone in Sierra Leone’s electronic media landscape; that is, the launching of another TV station in the country.

Our government, headed by President Ernest Bai Koroma, having set the pace in liberalizing and modernizing the media in this country through particularly the transformation of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation which now operates two television channels, is heartened that the enabling environment that has been created has encouraged institutions like Kedar Faith TV to set up a station here.

It is clear that this is the first Christian TV station to be launched in the country.  For this, I say thank you Rev. Mahdi.  The launching of the Christian TV station is of immense importance to the Government and the people of this country.  I  know that it will not only be a channel through which  the Gospel will be preached in Sierra Leone and beyond, but it will also encourage people to live a holy and righteous life, thereby laying the foundation for spiritual growth and moral rectitude.

Indeed whenever the Word of God is preached, God’s presence will be there and God’s anointing and blessing will surely reach the people of this land.

I am of the conviction that even though the TV is owned by Kedar Faith, its facilities will be made available to other Christian organizations and Churches to propagate the faith.

The Kedar Faith TV, I am sure, will inform, educate, entertain and preach the gospel to all and sundry.  It is my fervent belief, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, that this TV will win many souls for Christ resulting in a God-fearing, peaceful, honest and sincere society.

Rev. Mahdi, you are highly appreciated by the singular effort in bringing this television station to our country.  You have not only proved your faith as a born-again Christian, you have also confirmed the saying that ‘what men can do women can do too’.  I would only admonish you with your own vision statement as drawn from Matthew 28:19 – 20 to ‘go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them (and tele-broadcasting to them) in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’.

On this note, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen; as a Christian myself, I have the pleasure to launch Kedar Faith TV.

God bless you all.
