Sierra Leone Ambassador Jalloh presents credentials to Malta

On Thursday 20th January 2011, His Excellency Alhadji Abubakarr Jalloh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Great Socialist People Libya Arab Jamahiriya also accredited to Malta, Tunisia, Chad, Algeria, Morocco and CEN-SAD accompanied by his wife Mrs. Madina Jalloh and Mr. Momodu A. Wurie Head of Chancery/Counsellor, left a momentous impression with the government of the Republic of Malta when he presented his letters of credence to the Maltese President,  His Excellency Dr. George Abela, at the San Anton Presidential palace in Valletta as the new Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malta.  (Photo: High Commissioner Abubakarr Jalloh [in center] during the presentation of credentials in Malta)

In his remarks, High Commissioner AbubakarrJalloh expressed gratitude to the Maltese government for their unremitting assistance to Sierra Leone, he conveyed affectionate greetings from His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma the President, and people of the Republic of Sierra Leone to His Excellency Dr George Abela the President, and people of the Republic Malta. This splendid ceremony offered the opportunity for High Commissioner Jalloh to have fertile bilateral discussions with President George.

He assured President George Abela that he will work tirelessly to continue to strengthen our cordial long term diplomatic relationship and that Sierra Leone under President Ernest Bai Koroma Agenda for Change, has rebound back from the depression of the civil conflict to a class of producing clean and affordable electricity supply in the capital Freetown and other major cities in a country once described as the darkest on earth.

The pragmatic High Commissioner further gave a systematic analysis on the gigantic infrastructural development going on in the country, the introduction of free medical scheme thereby diminishing infants mortality, the rapid growth in the educational and agricultural sector with the aim of promoting food sufficiency in Sierra Leone, the excessive abolition of corruption, respecting the dignity of human rights, the sustainability of peace and stability and the creation of a conducive business security as a basic governmental components to grab the attention of friendly business entities and investors from around the world. As a result of these achievements, Sierra Leone is no more levelled at the base of the human development index.

The visionary Commissioner also emphasized on the vigorous standing of President Ernest Koroma to maintain peace and stability in West Africa and the Continent as a whole, particularly on the current political turmoil in Ivory Coast where is presently ensuring that true democracy is absolutely prevailed. That notwithstanding, he also drew the attention of President George Abela on the tireless peaceful intervention of President Ernest Bai Koroma on the Guinea political crisis where he subsequently achieved a nonviolence transition to a democratic governance.

The Maltese president, Dr George Abela kindly welcomed High Commissioner Abubakarr Jalloh to Malta and highly congratulated him on officially assuming a new important position and paid tribute to President Ernest Bai Koroma for the remarkable achievements Sierra Leone made in recent years.  He commended the outstanding status Sierra Leone under President Ernest Koroma enjoys in Africa as well as its concrete relations with the European Union. President George was confident that through joint efforts, Malta and Sierra Leone will work unremittingly to build and reap on the achievements already made and strive for deeper friendship and better cooperation.

This historic occasion was witnessed by higher-ranking Maltese government officials including, Hon. Dr Tonio Borg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr John Paul Grech Permanent Secretary Ministry of  Foreign Affairs and Sierra Leone’s first lady to Malta Mrs. Jalloh, Mr. Momodu .A. Wurie Head of Chancery/Counsellor and several Members of the Diplomatic Corps.

After the presentation of credentials, H.E High Commissioner Jalloh paid a courtesy called to the Prime Minister Hon. Dr Lawrence Gonzi later in the evening and had a productive meeting concerning bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both countries. The Commissioner again expressed his country’s gratitude to Malta for their continued support, both gentle men further shared understanding about their respective countries.

Finally High Commissioner Jalloh, his wife Mrs. Madina Jalloh and Mr. Momodu .A. Wurie Head of Chancery/Counsellor, had a responsive meeting with the Sierra Leone Community in Malta during Which the Community acknowledged him not only as High Commissioner to the European state of Malta but also as a father. The Community described the meeting as “absolutely historic” and assured Commissioner Jalloh of their highest support throughout his tenure.

In reply, the High Commissioner guaranteed the Sierra Leone Community of his highest support for the benefit of our country and people. He admonished his compatriots in Malta to do everything humanly possible to refrain from lawlessness and stand firm to uphold the outstanding reputation our beloved Sierra Leone enjoys in the world. During this event, Commissioner Jalloh pleaded to every Sierra Leonean to think fast of going home to join developing our beloved country, no place like home he said. I love you all, God bless you, he concluded.
