Help for destitute Sierra Leonean girl, Adama, shot down
Donor aid for the family of a little girl, simply known as Adama has been brutally shot down as a result of the inhumane treatment her donors are undergoing at the hands of the Sierra Leone police and judiciary. The little girl, Adama, had been a beneficiary of small donor funds from World Vision, an international NGO, which had been receiving support funds from philanthropists for her education, feeding and welfare.
According to a family source, the family had been receiving this assistance for a long time, and they had never realized that their donor lived in Sierra Leone, since the funds were being received from her bank account in the United Kingdom.
It was only recently, when another family member saw newspapers publications in Sierra Leone, that they made enquiries and realized that their donor, whom they always thought was far away, was actually living and working in the country.
We contacted the donor, a female Nigerian national living in Sierra Leone, (who had given a standing order for her UK account to be debited every month to help the little girl) for her comments. She declined an interview. According to her, she was not directly involved with Adama or her family, and had simply made the donations to World Vision UK out of compassion, to do her little bit to make the world a better place.
Our journalists persisted. They wanted to know if her ordeal in the hands of the Sierra Leone judicial system was responsible for her stopping her donations to World Vision, and subsequently to Adama’s family. She explained that it was not a yes or no question, and her choice to donate to the little girl’s education and future were a personal choice, which should not be the subject of public speculation. According to our investigations, the donor currently works in Sierra Leone with a telecoms distribution company and had recently faced rocky times with her business being disrupted by a myriad of law suits.
