David Simbo:Niger encounter is huge

Leone Stars and former Raufoss defender, David Simbo has said to Sierra Express Media that Leone Stars chance for a qualifying place for Afcon 2012 will start from their next away encounter in March this year.  (Photo: Simbo during his time with Raufoss)

“To keep our hopes alive in reaching the finals of Gabon, Equatorial Guinea 2012 African Cup of Nations victory away from home in the Niger capital Niamey is an obligation to me and my team,” said Simbo.

The match is slated for 25-27/03/11 and the 20-year-old Sierra Leonean defender who was part of the Leone Stars side  against the African Champions disclosed to this media that he and his teammates know it will be a tough task ahead but they are prepared for it.

The defender has a lot of experience having played in recent matches for Sierra Leone and he is determined for a qualification spot, he was also in action in Freetown when Leone Stars scored 0-0 with the 2010 World Cup host South Africa

“We are more than prepared, we know what to expect and with the result Niger pulled against Egypt they will be taking us very seriously.  Victory will put us in a better position to secure qualification considering South Africa and Egypt will both clash the same weekend anything can happen, but we just have to put pressure on the teams on top of us.” he said.

The player reiterated that “no one gave us a chance against Egypt in Cairo, but we went there and came out with a point. We want to build from our away experience,” he concluded.

Simbo is presently back at home in Sierra Leone without a contract; his contract ran out with the Norwegian second division side Raufoss IL last season.

He is hoping for another move to Europe soon, he disclosed to the Sierra Express Media that there are a few teams from the Scandinavian league that are presently negotiating with him for his service.
