Barlay to undergo trials with new Swedish top division team

The 24 years old short term contract with the Swedish third tier league club he played for last year Syrianska IF had already come to an end.

He to told sierraleonefootball.com that he would start trials this week with Syrianska FC from Södertälje, a city south of Stockholm and hopes to make it up.

“I believe in my ability to play good football and because of this I’ve confidence that I’ll pass the trials and Syrianska FC will sign me,” said Barlay.

If he succeeds he’ll make a return to Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top league after five years and it’ll be his fourth Swedish team. His first team in Allsvenskan were Malmo FF where he started his professional career in 2004 but made only four appearances.

Barley was loaned to IFK Mariehamn in the Finnish top division league called Veikkausliiga where he made eight appearances in one year period.  The former East End Lions player had a second spell with IFK Mariehamn in 2008 after another loan stint with at Örgryte IS in the Swedish second tier of football.

He played more matches this time round making 15 appearances. At Örgryte IS he scored five goals in 18 appearances. Barlay played 10 matches for Syrianska IF and scored four goals.

At international level Barley captained the Sierra Leone national Under-17 team Sierra Stars at both the 2003 CAF and FIFA U-17 Championships in Swaziland and South Africa respectively.

He has won several caps for the senior national team Leone Stars including matches at the 2008 and 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as the 2010 joint World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers. He’s a first choice at central midfield position for Leone Stars.
