18 Prison Officers to Face Court!

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has proffered court charges for 18 prison guards through its investigation for the escape of 19 Prison inmates.

Sources say all 18 suspects will appear in court anytime this week.

The CID has had I8 prison officers in its cells for the offences of permitting the escape of prisoners and conspiracy to cause the escape of prisoners at the Central Prison.

It is revealed that a deputy superintendent of prison is among persons detained at the CID pending investigation.

On the day of escape by inmates of Central Prison, a Deputy Superintendent Prison, A.M Kamara, now at the CID, was the man unquestionably in charge of inmates as well as prison guards on duty at Central Prison.

Sources say police investigations glaringly exonerate Prison’s Western Area Regional Commander, Chief Superintendent Billo Conteh.

Information gathered by this press disclosed how the police have failed to question the medical officer in charge of Central Prison hospital.

It must noted that rumours say two of the escapees – Tigana and Nwachukwu have had easy days enjoying privileges due sick people; were illegitimately admitted at the hospital up until day of their escape.

It could be recalled that Nwachukwu has been facing trial for the brutal murder of a ‘Fullah man’ at a hotel in central Freetown sometime 2008.

Police sources say all 18 prison officers have already been charged, but await approval from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Just after the recent escape of alleged 19 prison inmates, armed police presence has been observed on all four corners of Central Prison and its surrounding areas.
