SLPP Candidate Flouts Law
One of the SLPP candidates for party leadership, Dr. Soyie (in photo), an accused facing trial for larceny and trespass flouted police invitation to answer to complaint against him.
On the 7th December, a police officer attached to Congo Cross Division testified in an ongoing trial between Dr. Soyie and Alex John Demby.
It could be recalled that Dr. Soyie and others have been short listed for SLPP leadership and flagbearer contest in the 2012 Presidential elections.
According to the police witness, PC 1124 Alex John Demby, he told the court that he was in charge of the investigation against the SLPP big man.
That he made several efforts to have accused Dr. Soyie report to the police station for statement, but failed.
He further disclosed how the complaint against Dr. Soyie was made in July of 2010.
“I and Detective Police Constable 882 Joseph Conteh visited the scene of crime at Hill Station, Freetown.
After completion of investigation an invitation was officially sent to the accused inviting him to respond to the allegation against him.
“Persistent and uncalled refusal of the accused, Dr. Soyie, resulted in the transfer of the matter to CID headquarters for further investigation,” the witness said.
When cross examining the witness, Lawyer Yada Williams, put it to the police witness that he did not at any point obtain statement from the accused because he never honoured the police invitation sent him.
It was however revealed that the complaint was made sometime in 2006, by that time, the accused was out of Sierra Leone.
