Discovery – New talent for Sierra Leone!
Sierra Express Media has learnt how the Manager of Doncaster Rovers, Sean O’Driscoll, took something of a gamble when he signed Sierra Leonean, Mustapha Dumbuya (in photo) in August following a preseason trial in 2009.
However it looked as the manager has found a hidden gem of the young talent, as Dumbuya impress in his first season with Doncaster Rovers. With his electric pace and ability on the ball, the young London born has the ability to become a key player in Rovers attack.
Dumbuya’s contract was extended by another year in July 2010 that will keep him until July 2011.
Dumbuya joined Doncaster Rovers in August 2009, having previously played for non-League clubs Wingate & Finchley and Maidenhead United. He also had trials and trained with Grays Athletic, Gillingham, Hereford United and Fulham.
He made his Football League debut on 3 October 2009 for Doncaster Rovers in the 1–1 away draw with Sheffield United, replacing John Spicer in the 90th minute as a substitute.
Doncaster manager Sean O’Driscoll was sufficiently pleased with Dumbuya’s pre-season performances in the summer of 2010 that he pointed out to the media that he would have no hesitation in utilising Dumbuya more often in the 2010–11 seasons
If you’re in the deprived masses and have not heard of Mustapha Dumbuya, don’t panic. It is perfectly understandable. Just over a year ago Dumbuya was kicking around the isthmian non-league scene in search of a game in the recognized league, with lots of action from pitching up at Maidenhead United, Wingate & Finchley, Potters Bar Town and Grays Athletic.
He was already eyed by many clubs, the likes of Gillingham and Hereford United, but both declined to take on the then twenty-one-year-old, both citing a ‘lack of experience’.
Thankfully for the player Doncaster would intervene and after making an impression at trial, Mustapha Dumbuya signed for the Rovers – his first professional contract – a month before his twenty-second birthday.
