Desailly set for Ghana job

Marcel Desailly, a French international born with the name Odenke Abbey 7 September 1968 in Accra, Ghana is one of the top contenders for the national team job.

The retired French footballer, former Chelsea player,  is amongst the five shortlisted coaches from The Ghana Football Association (GFA).

In a recent report from Accra close sources from the GFA confirmed to Sierra Express Media that Marcel who was adopted by a French consulate after his mother got married is set to be appointed by GFA if he prove himself.

The 1998 World Cup winner with France is reportedly leading the pack but all five candidates will be interviewed mid-December the report stated.

Only one local coach is among the list, Herbert Addo who took Ashanti Gold to the finals of the CAF Champions League in 1997, the rest are Portugal coach Humberto Cuelho, German-Turkish coach Can Vanli, Serbian Goran Stevanovic.

Marcel Desailly 42, has no coaching experience but his root and as a former world cup and European Championships winner with France has made him hot favourite, but the fact that the former Chelsea and AC Milan defender has no previous coaching record is a major minus.
