Mabohanday Fundraising dinner, dance and cultural extravaganza
It was a night of amusement and ecstasy at Inez Hall in Philadelphia when the Mabohanday (Lets Unite) Limba organization hosted a fundraising dinner, dance and cultural extravaganza. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Samuel Delito Turay Assistant Secretary General of APC North America said that the Mabohanday Pennsylvania Chapter is gratified and honored to receive guests in the fundraising dinner and dance. He gave a synopsis of development projects the organization is engage in Sierra Leone. He said the main objectives of the organization are to help the underprivileged, identify areas of human development, and bring awareness and ethnic identity among others.
The fundraising dance was graced by many Mabohanday and APC chapters in the United States among which includes Presidents of APC and Mabohanday in New Jersey, Ohio, Boston, Virginia, Maryland and Arizona. Also present at the occasion were stalwarts and die-hard APC supporters like Aziz Nabe, Foday Mansaray, Alhaji Alie Badara of New Jersey, APC Fundraising Ambassador, Dauda Tombo Bangura (DTB) and his entourage, the newly elected President of Washington, DC Metropolitan Chapter, Yabom Thaslim Koroma, Vice President Alhaji Dumbuya and Solomon Kargbo, Organizing Secretary Washington, DC Metropolitan Chapter, members of the Tegloma organization and SLPP representatives.
The MC’s for the fundraising program were Mrs. Mamusu Conteh-Luke of Philadelphia and Abdulrahman Conteh of Ohio. After introducing and recognizing some personalities in the occasion an explosive mind rending music, “Babayrain” (don’t cry) opens the floor for attendees to shake their heels and dance to the melodious tune of the Limba music. Sumptuous and delicious delicacies were served to the guests of the program.
Then appeared the Limba cultural mask dancer, “Mathorma” who displayed his skills in cultural dancing accompanied by a man dressed in cultural attire and armed with wooden machete. The appearance of Mathorma drew a record of crowd of Limba cultural dancers including the writer of this article. After a brief display of cultural dancing, the Mathorma mask dancer disappeared into the thin air. The jam-packed hall with a crowd of over 300 people danced to the melodious tunes of African music till the wee-wee hours.
Responding to the call of President Koroma for Sierra Leoneans to return and contribute to the development of Sierra Leone, Mr. Joseph Sherman, Secretary General of the West African Medical Center on behalf of Dr. Sidikie Bangura, President Sierra Leone Operations and Dr. Augustine Alusine Kamara, Vice president, Sierra Leone Operations urged attendees of the fundraising dinner and dance to support the new venture American Medical Practitioners and Sierra Leoneans Medical Practitioners are about to initiate in Sierra Leone. He said this is an opportunity for Sierra Leoneans in the medical field to take advantage of this worthwhile venture. Mr. Sherman said formal presentation and mini fundraising will be initiated very soon in Philadelphia. He ended by distributing flyers of the West African Medical Center to the audience.
The writer of this article left Philadelphia at 3:00 A.M. in the company of Foday Mansaray, Alhaji Alie Badara, Aziz Nabe and Alhaji Dumbuya to attend private matters in New Jersey. It was a memorable occasion for invitees of the Philadelphia Mabohanday Chapter fundraising dinner, and dance.
