Strong turnaround for Marcel Trelleborg FF
Trelleborg FF last Saturday defeated GAIS 3-1 to keep their hopes alive away from home in the Gamla Ullevi Stadium; it was a well deserved victory for Manager Tom Prahl’s side. Sierra Leonean born Ibrahim Koroma returned to action after being absent in recent weeks over a suspected ligament strain he sustained in a training session in Freetown for the South Africa encounter, after that he was always going to be uncertain as he also missed the South Africa encounter in Freetown.
Last year Trelleborg picked up home wins against both GAIS and Örgryte and last Saturday repeated the same against GAIS. Tom Prahl was pre afraid of the opponents, who are fighting to secured a place in the Allsvenkan next season, he was partly right of course it was GAIS which was much more aggressive initially, but it was the TFF that created chances.
Instead it was the home team that would match the first goal. In the middle of TFF-press stack up GAIS, Mervan Celik struck a post from the left as Jonas Lindberg nodded into. The next 20 minutes were fairly uneventful the match went into half-time with Gais leading the pack 1-0.
The second half of the match did not come up as expected both teams were very preventive of their goal area, Trelleborg tried to prevent any further default. The games were characterized by a very slow and tedious passing game and many easy balls were removed. In this situation, there was little indication that Trelleborg would leave with a point.
In the 77th minutes, came the turnaround when GAIS captain Fredrik Lundgren was sent off for a foul on Trelleborg.
A free kick was awarded and was turned to an equalizer by Kristian Haynes 1-1 in the 78th minute.
It was Kristian Haynes who cut into the penalty area line again in the 84th minute into the lead with a low shot to the left GAIS Jankulovski had no chance and suddenly in added time, the Magnus Andersson hard the security goal, after a rather generous pass from the Sierra Leonean defender Ibrahim Koroma who came in from the bench for Fredick Jensen after few weeks out injured.
The result lifts them up into 5th place with 41 points from 29 mathces. The will face Orebro at home in their last league encounter November 7 kick off 15:30. They are in strong position to reach Europa league that is if Elfsborg slip in the match against Gais the same week.
