WAFU and FC Johansen set sight on future partnership
FC Johansen has welcomed the open handed invitation from the West African Football Union (WAFU). It can be recalled that WAFU last week whilst lauding the effort of FC Johansen CEO, Isha Johansen in organising and hosting the African International Youth Tournament (AIYT) in Sierra Leone. WAFU also sought direct partnership with FC Johansen in future partnership on hosting of the tournament which is now an annual event in the Freetown.
Reacting to the WAFU offer, Isha Johansen welcomed the partnership call and plaudits from the regional football body; ”I am elated. Absolutely thrilled that finally the youth of Sierra Leone can be given a platform to showcase their talents and express their aspirations. After Mohamed Kallon, there seemed to be a blackout as far as international youth exposure in Sierra Leone is concerned.
This is a chance for us to show the world that there is more to Sierra Leone than just ‘blood diamonds’,” she said.
On their part WAFU are going to send a representative for this year’s tournament and will undertake a partnership for next year’s event, WAFU will also register the tournament on their list of activities for 2011. “We shall do everything possible to make this youth tournament a true showcase of football in Africa… We assure you of a frank and sincere collaboration in the future,” said Aka Malan.
The AIY Tournament will commence on the 27th November to 4th December this year at the National Stadium and it will be named in the memory of late FC Johansen player, Issa Koroma a.k.a. Madam.
