Elect Alpha O Timbo for SLPP flag bearer, champion of the voiceless! Hon. Alpha O. Timbo, one of the leading aspirants for the SLPP flag bearer position arrived in the United States on Wednesday, 13th Oct. 2010, to continue his meet the people tour which he had to abandon the last time to return home to pay his last respect to a fallen comrade, Late Dr. Alfred Fawundu. On Saturday, October 16th 2010, a convoy of excited members of the USA Caucus for Alpha O. Timbo left the Washington Metro area with their young, vibrant and humble aspirant for the SLPP flag bearer position Alpha O. Timbo, under the charismatic leadership of the Caucus Chairman Lawyer Alhaji Mohamed Sadu Bah, for the (Garden State ) New Jersey and subsequently on Sunday 17th, October 2010, the (Great Empire State) New York for a meet, greet and presentation of his case to the SLPP faithful members as to WHY HE IS THE MOST
FORMIDABLE CANDIDATE THAT IS ABLE, READY AND ENERGETIC TO DEFEAT THE CURRENT INCOMPETENT APC GOVERNMENT LED BY DR. ERNEST BAI KOROMA, WITH THEIR RECKLESS TRIBALISM AND CORRUPT PRACTICES.
In New Jersey, the convoy was warmly received by the New Jersey chapter of the SLPP in America through the open hands of their progressive Chairman Mr. Jerry George. It was a meeting permeated with an atmosphere of civility which enhances a thorough discussion of the true disturbing issues of the SLPP and Sierra Leone as a whole. The aspirant wasted no time in presenting his case to the audience after the normal formalities of prayers, opening remarks and introductions were done. He clearly articulated his twenty-five years of work experience as a teacher, trade unionist (SLTU, Sierra Leone Labor Congress) and as a performing Minister of Labor in the past SLPP administration of Former President Ahmed Tejan Kabba. He furthered that what the SLPP needs is a person like him who can take the battle for the Presidency to the opponents territory. And he explained briefly his strategy to defeat the APC to which the audience were “wowed”. In concluding his presentation, he explained to all and sundry, as to where he planned to take his party and the country if he becomes the SLPP flag bearer and subsequently the President of Sierra Leone.
During the question and answer session, the candidate was grilled on a wide range of issues pertaining to such as the Hinga Norman factor, Party Unity, Candidate of National Appeal, Mumu Government, Election Fraud and more. To all of the aforesaid questions the candidate eloquently gave satisfactory answers which resonates with the audience as evident from the applauses and utterances he received. In closing the chairman, Mr. Jerry George, thanked the convoy for coming to the most stable Chapter of the SLPP in America. He appealed to the convoy to make sure that they convince their relatives residing in New Jersey to join the Party.
New Jersey session
On Sunday, 17th October, 2010, the convoy proceeded to the (Great Empire State) New York for a joint brief meeting with the SLPP chapter and Sierra Leone Community of New York. at the 3rd Avenue Mosque in the Bronx, New York City. The theme of this meeting was to invoke the presence of God in all the activities that the aspirant plans to have in the USA during his visit. The Imam of the Mosque in welcoming the aspirant advised him, that when one seeks such a powerful position in a country, that individual should realize that he or she, is doing so to become the President of all the people of that country and not of a particular tribe. And also that leadership is endowed by God and not by man. As such, for the mere fact that the candidate choose to come and seek their help and prayers is a step in the right direction. One of the most prominent members of the African Community present in this prayer meeting, a Malian by birth, Mr. Bourema Niambele, (Co-ordinator of African Advisory Council of Bronx Borough President Office, New York City ) reminded all and sundry, that we Africans in the USA, regardless of our country of origin should learn to see ourselves as one entity, if we truly want to effect change in Africa.
The aspirant thanked all for coming and asked that they continue to pray for him. He furthered that his reasons for seeking this great position is purely borne out of his strong conviction that he will deliver to the SLPP and the people of Sierra Leone if given the chance to lead as he has done in many positions of trust that he has held. The prayer/meeting as a whole was very much informative, open and rewarding to all present. There was plenty to eat and drink and people scrambled to have a photo opt. with the aspirant.
Before departing back to the Washington Metro Area, the aspirant and his Caucus held a close door meeting with the SLPP New York Chapter to schedule a date for a SLPP members only meeting, as people are yearning to hear the powerful message that they‘ve heard delivered to other States by the aspirant..
