Afsatu Kabba Embraces APC

Even though she has been convicted on 5 counts of corruption related offences during her tenure as Minister of Fisheries and Marine resources, the erstwhile Haja Afsatu Olayinka Kabba has vowed to continue to be loyal to the All People Congress Party (APC) and still remain a staunch member of her party.

The embattled former minister also maintained that she has no grudge against any of her colleagues, the court, nor the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). “I am also loyal to his Excellency the president Dr Ernest Bai Koroma”, she boasted in smiles.

She went on to say that for the past six months she has been going through a trial as a result of an indictment by the ACC and during this trial she witnessed the solidarity and support form many Sierra Leoneans. She explained that on Tuesday the 12th October 2010, she received a verdict of which the thrust was that she was solely responsible for the mismanagement of funds at the ministry.

Haja Afsatu lamented that during her tenure as minister she introduced mechanisms which are not only geared towards fostering accountability and transparency but also saw a considerable increase in revenue generation by the ministry.

The former minister also doffs her hat to her legal team that tirelessly used their knowledge, energy, and enormous experience in litigation and as far as she is concerned their work was a manifestation of professionalism and resilience in the defense of the innocent.

She also went on say that whilst she remains surprised by the ruling of the court she has always been a law abiding citizen and will continue to be so, her patriotism to her country and loyalty to her party APC will also remain unshakable.

She however stated the court has made its decision, and she will make no further comments on that because it is a legal matter and her lawyers are exploring grounds for an appeal.

“I am impressed with the kind of public support  that I have received and continue to receive both locally and internationally, therefore I have not been too surprised by the interest that has already been expressed by many sympathizers to help mobilize funds for the payment of the court fines and restitution”  Hon Afsatu Kabba  said.
