GOSA presents 250 books to Gbinti Secondary School
The Gbinti Old Students Association (GOSA) on Friday 15th October 2010 presented 250 assorted text books to the Gbinti Secondary School, Gbinti, Dibia Chiefdom, Port Loko District.
The books were donated to the old students by the Sierra Leone Library Board (SLLB) for which GOSA Vice President, Mohamed Bundu, who chaired the ceremony, applauded the board and management of SLLB for the gesture underscoring that education is the key to development.
Mohamed Bundu also admonished pupils and parents to take good care of the books that should not only be used by them but future generations and urged teachers to encourage pupils to use the school library to study and conduct research.
“This is not the first time the school has benefited from such donations as GOSA has contributed immensely and in diverse ways to the advancement of the school. This latest development is a sterling example others must emulate,” Mohamed Bundu asserted.
GOSA Treasurer, Alieu Jah, gave a brief background of the association established in 1996 for old students to contribute to the development of the school and the pupils revealing, “we are the foundation pupils of this school established in 1990.”
President of GOSA, Rashid G. Dainkeh, who introduced members of his association, lauded stakeholders for their efforts to lift the school to higher heights, pledged the association’s continued support and cautioned the pupils, especially girls, to be focused on their education by putting premium of their studies underlining, “with education, the sky is your limit therefore, be friendly with your books. We succeeded in this gesture because we are educated.”
Principal of GSS, M.H. Turay, acclaimed GOSA and the Sierra Leone Library Board for the gift and assured that the books would be judiciously utilized for their intended purpose reiterating that teachers would ensure that pupils become familiar with the use of the library.
M.H. Turay further highlighted that the school has grown tremendously since his appointment and catalogued the construction of more buildings, increase in enrollment and lauded the old students for their love and commitment to the ideals of the school.
