Patriotism – I will play on Sunday … country first
October 5, 2010 – Sierra Leone AIK star striker Mohamed Bangura (in photo) has said despite the tragedy that struck him and his family he will still be part of Coach Cole’s squad that will face South Africa. After the 21-year-old and his wife lost their first child during the birth. He will fly to Freetown on Wednesday to join the team for Sierra Leone’s international match.
“Yes he is still in shock and cannot talk about what happened, “said his agent, Patrick Mork.
Bangura was supposed to become a father for the first time but problems arose during his wife’s labour and unfortunately the child’s life could not be saved. Now he is ready to put everything behind him to represent his country to show patriotism to his people.”
Talking to Sierra Express Media, Bangura confirmed he will be in Freetown on Thursday and will travel together with J-South wing man Sheriff Suma to join the rest of the squad.
His wife, Tata is still in the hospital, but he will travel tomorrow to the Sierra Leone. He wants to meet his parents because he believes it is appropriate to go now.
“The rest of the team have travelled today, but the idea is that Bangura will fly on Wednesday,” said Patrick Mork who has spoken a lot with Mohamed recently.
“It’s a big game and he is one of the stars of the team. When they meet South Africa he feels a heavy responsibility for the squad. It is the biggest game in Sierra Leone for years, so it would be a very difficult decision not to play,” said Patrick Mork.
