Sierra Leone opponent bids for 2015 Nations Cup

Sierra Leone Group G opponent in the race to reach 2012 Africa Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, South Africa has made an application to the Confederation of African Football, bidding to host the 2015 Nations Cup finals following the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup for the first time on the continent. According to reports in the Sowetan newspaper, Safa has already informed CAF of their intentions to host the 2015 finals. South Africa last hosted the Nations Cup in 1996, which Bafana Bafana went on to win after beating Tunisia in the Final.

The report says Safa president Kirsten Nematandani made a request to CAF last Tuesday following a decision that was taken at a management meeting in Johannesburg which was influenced by the success of the World Cup.

“We are still enjoying the success of the World Cup and we hope it will be good for us in our bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations. There will be no question of infrastructure because it is here, accommodation is here. There will be no question of transport because it is here, world-class stadiums are here too. We have everything. We are going to update the government about this development,” Nematandani is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Mosimane is expected to announce the squad for the October 8-10 match in Johannesburg on Thursday. “We will only release the details of the whole trip when we announce the squad for the match,” Sanyane said.

Leone Stars are not going to be an easy match for Bafana, especially after they earned a credible 1-1 draw against reigning African champions, Egypt, in Cairo earlier this month.
