Court Police, Court Clerks?

Police officers attached to law court have been accused as acting as court clerks in a bid to get money from persons eager to have their relatives bailed.

In the face of efforts by the Justice Sector Development Programme in the enhancement of access to justice and equality, officers of the SLP attached to law court have had jolly good days throwing spanners on laudable ventures as effortfully targeted.

Independent findings say police officers are in the habit of collecting money from litigants on grounds of what they refer to as ‘negotiating with presiding magistrates to make rulings delivered to the favour of persons paying money to them.

Court sources revealed how police officers openly receive money from complainants and accused in the view of the public.

It is revealed also that some journalists covering the court overindulged in the habit of receiving money from complainant and accused just as alleged of police officers.

That some even act as court Clerks, convincing complainants or accused hand over money to them for use to cause bail grants of detained persons.

It could be recalled that as police officers and journalists, public’s expectation speaks positive than of negative as alleged of them.

Public opinion says the new police Inspector General and the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists should come up with measures to prevent their subjects indulging into criminalities as stated above.
