SLPP distortions and misrepresentation of facts through their bogus propaganda media

Distortions through deception in Macbeth William Shakespeare’s play, Lady Macbeth and the three witches destroy lives by their acts of deceit to create corruption, violence and an upset in the balance of good and evil. To be deceived implies a deliberate misrepresentation of facts through the words or actions, which is used by one to increase power. While caught in a viscous, power hungry cycle, it is hard to distinguish between what is ethical and moral as reality becomes distorted. It is this distortion and the negative repercussions that cause devastation, which has resulted from deceptions. These deceptions have ruined the lives of many, who were caught up in a struggle for power and unable to realize their own shattered lives. (Photo: Joseph Sherman)

The SLPP’s acts of deception, which created corruption, violence and a disturbance are illustrated through their 11-year of governance.  Yet, instead of feeling remorse and repenting, SLPP are now engage in false propaganda against the APC government in order to protect their own guilt of bad governance, human rights abuse and rampant corruption.  Through the SLPP own distorted perception and corruption, corruption and bad governance became a necessity for survival. Because of that, Sierra Leoneans and the international community saw Ex-President Kabbah and the entire SLPP’s government corrupt nature, and thus lack of trust against this government resulted from them booted out of power in the elections of 2007.

Violence is another example of how power hungry SLPP was using; they had no ethics or morals and could not be admired. The SLPP used violent actions through the NPRC to gain power and regrettably, the people mandate for a better choice of government was what severed them from power. The SLPP government destroyed the lives of innocent Sierra Leoneans in spite of the international community asking for restraint.  Today the master minder of these extra-judicial killings, Solomon Berewah receives support from the APC government to seek medical treatment in India.  Where is the pride of the SLPP?

Propaganda based on tribalism, deceit, misinformation, hate and egoism is what the opposition SLPP is relying on to prove its case of political failure to the people of Sierra Leone and the party is in a state of oblivion and illusion so much that their politicians have resorted to dirty politics.  This life-and-death political propaganda has the propensity of deceiving the ignorant and investors into believing that nothing good is in Sierra Leone.   The campaign to mislead rather than lead has overwhelmed the entire camp of the SLPP who believe their power is more important than the well being of the nation.

One thing that makes me sad though is “tribalism”. I am saddened and deeply troubled when I read writings and opinions of the self-styled New People online newspaper online against the APC government and its officials.  Not only are the opinions and writings perfidious to the cause of a prosperous Sierra Leone but they are obstacles to a fledgling democracy.  I respect tribal cultures and anything with regards tribal tradition but I do not stand for those associations or gangs who assume to represent our people when they are inimical to their progress and development.  Isn’t paradoxical to call for unity when you are an obstacle to unity yourself?

As true sons and daughters of Sierra Leone with good intentions to see our country develop politically, socially and economically,  we suppose to put the interest of our nation first rather than serving our individual interest.   Our reliance on manipulative advertising leads to deceit and public dialogue has become a monologue of self-interest.

The failure to address issues of common interest and the of politics of imputing has taken over the minds of the opposition SLPP to the extent that they are blinded by reality and will do everything within their power to propagate make-belief lies to satisfy their whims and caprices.  How can we say we are educated and intelligent, when we cannot reason what is best for the country?  Can political maneuvering and false propaganda bring development and stability in the country?   One thing SLPP politicians failed to realize is that the more you use coercive power to gain popularity the more you accumulate enemies.

Unlike previous governments, the APC government within 36 months in power has demonstrated to the people of Sierra Leone and the international community that it can deliver in spite the global economic recession; as such it is incumbent upon all patriotic Sierra Leoneans to come together for the common good of the country.  We cannot all be politicians; rather with our individual talents we can collectively contribute our quota to development of the country.

Democracy and freedom of expression cannot survive if continue with politics of deceit, misrepresentation and distortions of facts.    Nothing short of a revolution in the way we practice politics in Sierra Leone will keep freedom and democracy from disappearing behind the two-way-mirror of selfish, vain, and impoverished political habits.  The politics of deceit will open eyes of Sierra Leoneans to the ways they are being manipulated and thereby know the truth.

  • Hi joseph,
As a staunch supporter of APC like yourself we must accept the fact that the present appointments are not regional balance and not even district balance in the north. We must be bold enough to also call Pa Koroma to remedy that ugly situation as when one region feel agrieved S/Leoneans should be concerned. We have a responsibility to maintain the fragile peace that our people are enjoying back home.Let him axe those dead wood and replace them with loyal and competent people from the other regions and he must remember that the buck stop with him.Let us help our president become a more productive man as he rely on us to identify the weaknesses of our government so that it will be corrected very early so that 2012 the road to victory will be more easier and smoother.
