High-level attendance expected at AgriBusiness Forum 2010

16 September 2010 – Brussels, Belgium: AgriBusiness heavyweights put their heads together in Kampala next month. Ministers of several African States will lead business delegations at this year’s forum taking place in Kampala, Uganda from the 3rd to the 6th of October . President Yoweri K. Museveni of Uganda will open the 4 day AgriBusiness Forum organised by the Brussels-based non-profit organisation EMRC in partnership with and under the high patronage of the Government of the Republic of Uganda.

The AgriBusiness Forum 2010 will address the business opportunities the global food security situation presents for agribusiness throughout Africa, reviewing successful case-studies and analysing best practices in the agri-food industry.  Attendance by ministers from India, Mali, Chad, Sudan, Angola and Mozambique has been confirmed and the organisers look forward to the Ministerial Roundtable that will conclude the 4 day forum.

“We will be inviting all the ministers present to take part in our Ministerial Roundtable.  They will be presented with The AgriBusiness Forum Declaration of Intent, a document that puts forwards the conclusions and recommendations from the forum.  By committing to this document the Ministers give us their assurance that they will do everything in their power to action these recommendations on their return to their countries.  In this way, we already take the first steps towards moving forward together towards our shared goal of improving and elevating agribusiness across Africa. ”  Prof. Pierre Mathijsen, President, EMRC.

In addition to the high ministerial presence, a diverse range of agribusiness experts will present at the forum, including Namanga Ngongi (AGRA), Marco Ferroni (Syngenta Foundation), Monty Jones (FARA) and Thad Simons (Novus Int).  The over 50 expert speakers, coming from over 15 different countries, will address topics such as the role of the private sector in improving access to food, increasing sustainable agricultural productivity and the sourcing of agribusiness finance. Dedicated business-to-business sessions and business networking events will facilitate delegate introductions and encourage partnership-building and project collaboration.

Jointly organised by EMRC and the Government of Uganda, the forum is also organised in collaboration with Rabobank and FAO.  Other partners include USAID, Novus International, Stanbic Bank, Syngenta Foundation, the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), KPMG, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), IFDC, ProInvest, the East African Community (EAC), the European Union and the World Food Program (WFP).
