Call for ideas for the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations

Sierra Leone is ready to embark on a new and momentous chapter of development and growth.   The occasion of its golden jubilee will serve both as a moment of reflection, celebration, and defining a vision for the future.  The National Planning Committee is calling for ideas in celebrating the 50th Independence Anniversary of Sierra Leone.

The Anniversary is a truly national celebration and the committee recognizes that there are many Sierra Leoneans who may have ideas, suggestions, projects, and plans for our Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The committee is therefore calling on Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad to submit their innovative ideas and suggestions detailing events and projects that portray the theme of the celebration: “50 Years Forward- Celebrating a New Sierra Leone.”

As the official entity responsible for the 2011 Celebrations, the Committee is requesting that all individuals, organizations, and associations that desire to be included in the official Independence celebrations calendar to submit their Golden Ideas to the Committee. Any idea or event planned next year that does not follow this process will not be recognized by the national planning Committee as part of the official Independence Celebrations.

All existing annual events or unsolicited proposals submitted to the Secretariat must resubmit on the application form provided to the committee for consideration.

All individuals, organizations, and associations with new innovative ideas and or events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee must also submit an application to the Committee. Upon submission the Committee will evaluate applications and select ideas that best embody the spirit of the 50th Independence Anniversary.

Application forms for Golden Ideas will be available at the 50th Independence Anniversary Secretariat from 10th September, 2010. The deadline for submission is October 8th 2010.

An information session for applicants will be held at the British Council on 10th September 2010 from 10:00am -12:00pm

In the spirit of national unity, all events for the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations will be devoid of regional, political, and ethnic prejudice and shall be inclusive all Sierra Leoneans, across every province, irrespective of religion, tribe, age, and gender.
