Blatant promotion of Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister

In his letter to BBC, Dr. Sama Banya (in photo) writes:

I am constrained to call your attention to the BBC’s programme “From our own correspondent” this weekend, i.e., Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning today. The correspondent was reporting on Sierra Leone’s attempt at feeding itself.

Unfortunately the impression given by your correspondent was an undisguised and blatant attempt at promoting the country’s Foreign minister not so much as a participant in the process, but more as an image build-up. Her role in the rebel war, how she went to the bush to confront the rebels, an obvious exaggeration and her philanthropic role in caring were the highlight of the dispatch.

One would have no objection if your correspondent were to choose such a subject, but to do so under the façade of reporting on food production raises concern on her intentions, especially when she links her dispatch to the proposed launching on Tuesday of a project about her heroine.

The BBC has an enviable record of impartiality which is now being dented by one of your correspondents in “From our own correspondent.”
