What men can do women can do better says AML Geologists

Meeting one of their corporate social responsibilities in not just the mining sector, African Minerals Limited has proved to the people of this nation that they are not only investing in the country but also contributing towards the empowerment of women in Sierra Leone as women of this nation need empowerment to save them from being marginalized by their men folks.

Last Wednesday African Minerals took journalists on a tour of Tonkolili district, visiting villages and towns where the company is operating. Journalists were also taken to the port town of Pepel to have a glimpse at the company’s operations and the community development it is currently undertaking. I was really surprised to see Tedwina Faulkner, a female, working as a geologist at one of the drilling sites. Faulkner told journalists that it was indeed a big challenge for her working in such a capacity but she believes that what men can do, women can do better.

She said she is having a very cordial relationship with the men she is working with and that the working environment is very comfortable for her. She encouraged other women to consider taking such a challenge.

Meanwhile, aside the three villages toured in the Tonkolili district, journalists were also taken to the modern schools currently being constructed by African Minerals for the community people so that their children can benefit from quality education, especially as the government strives to overhaul the country’s ailing educational system.

The local chiefs in all the three villages thanked African Minerals for supporting their children through education. They expressed hope and belief that such a support will continue as the company is also offering scholarships to their children as well as jobs for young people in the various communities and Sierra Leoneans generally.

They also voiced their belief that more jobs are on the way to provide employment opportunities for more jobless Sierra Leoneans.
