30 roads in 18 months – rubbish, repair potholes now!

Of course, the bulk of persons resident in communities around Wilberforce, Wilkinson Road, Lumley and Aberdeen, using the Murray Town axis, can attest to the fact that potholes in roads leading to their respective homes have the potent tendencies to cause pain on them and cause accident to vehicles plying on streets as aforementioned.

That said, it was all a surprise to prove that Hill Cut which leads to the Presidential Lodge at Hill Station has been nicknamed as the headquarters of ‘pothole streets’ in Freetown.

No disrespect to His Excellency at all, but respectful disrespect to persons occupying public offices and neglect national responsibilities.

No matter the situation or manner, roads leading to the President’s bungalow should be looked at with highest concern.

No wonder civilized countries in Africa, Europe and America take time in the appointment of persons for public errands.

The appointment of Alimamy Pepito Koroma as Works Minister was indeed an administrative blunder.

It is always odd appointing an agriculturist as Health Minister and a medical doctor a Defence Minister.

Again, was not the Sierra Leone Roads Authority working towards the rehabilitation of roads countrywide?

We ask because doubts have overcome minds of Sierra Leoneans, who months ago, received words of hope from no less a person but the Minister of Information, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, that the ruling APC shall in 18 months construct 30 roads with four lanes each in Freetown.

While we maintain our stance on informing society of the perils and vulnerabilities of potholes on key roads in the city, should we also mirror out the shameless ignorance of the so called works Minister, Alimamy P. Koroma, who by all indication, is like a dummy who knows nothing and has nothing to contribute; even to cause rehabilitation of a road used by the President – Hill Cut Road – he cannot.

Yes, the constructions of 30 roads are good initiative, but why concentrate on new roads and then allow old ones to shrink?

It is of course an amazement that Hill Cut, a road that leads to President Koroma’s resident, is in a shattered, dilapidated, devastated and dangerous form.

While we take cognizance of the fact that the APC has made big mouth that it will bring to doorsteps of Sierra Leoneans, 30 new roads in 18 months, we also question the uncalled for disregard by officials of government in the maintenance of usable roads in the city of Freetown.

We at Sierra Express Media seemed doubtful over indistinct promises of government in the construction of four lane roads within 36 months.

But if confessions of such makes true, we ask that government make counteractive moves and try to seal potholes on streets in the region of the city.

  • SEM editor, It is sometimes good to keep the lips sealed, writing all these trash shows how biased and one sided you are, The A.P.C Government is doing its utmost best to bring safety in our old neglected roads. You are blaming the Works minister of being a dummy for the few good snap shots you took in one of these old S.L.P.P. abandon roads to provoke a hard diligent minister. Shame on you. Your propaganda game will not work neither survive, support the Ernest Koroma campaign of rebuilding Sierra leone. I can assure you as a true Sierra leone liberated from this old wicked regime of the past decade your life span will live longer.

  • Why you people always like to politarize things…I think the writer is saying the right thing, it will be better for the government to fix those bads roads first before doing the new roads…I’m not saying that put up new roads are bad tho, but the least we have that are bad need to be dealt with first hand.

I’m not even sure that Yankay Sesay have been in to Sierra Leone in long long time… but that’s the face…Let put country first and forget things politics things for now or else Salone will never get to a high level….I advice we work as a Sierra leonean an not politician..
