CDHR Director undermines free health care services

The Free Health Care policy, which was commissioned by President Ernest Bai Koroma and overwhelmingly welcomed and accepted by every Sierra Leonean, is about to be undermined by some evil forces of the APC led government.

One of those people is the Director of Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR), Gibrill Massie Bah.

This was very recently illustrated when on Friday 13th August, monitors working for Health for All Coalition who were on a private visit to Makeni arrested drugs believed to be free health care drugs in AMSALL pharmacy at 27 Rogbaneh Road in Makeni.

The three monitors were also arrested by Gibrill Massie Bah who took them to the police station and informed the police that the three monitors, John Gbla, Ishmael Dumbuya, and Mamako Moigula were impersonating and extorting money from pharmacy owners.

The three monitors were detained for two days at the Rogbaneh police station while the Pharmacist, Alhaji Amadu Wurie Jalloh, was released after interrogation.

The Director of Health for All Coalition, Charles Mambu, on Sunday 15th August arrived in Makeni and after meeting with the LUC, Crime Officer, and the AIG-North, called an extra ordinary press briefing where he informed the journalists that the three suspects were his monitors and that they were not impersonating.

Mambu further said that his monitors were indeed arrested by Massie Bah who according to him was trying to hide the pharmacist in whose shop drug believed to be free health care drugs were arrested by his monitors who were also released after interrogation by the police.

According to Charles Mambu, up to the time of the briefing, the police in Makeni through a public notice has confirmed that; “The three suspects for the unlawful possession of the free health care drugs were not arrested by the police and that no confirmation has been made by the police to any person/persons that the arrested persons have been found wanting by the police for committing any offence.” Signed and stamped by LUC Theophilus Senesie.

The Director states that all the rumors and allegations were made by Massie Bah who wanted to fight for his Fullah brother. He continued that without malice, fear or favor, there  is every need for Massie Bah to address things the way its happened, noting that Bah is a brother to his which he had demonstrated twice at the ACC in Freetown when he grant him bail.

Although his monitors were released while the investigation is ongoing, Charles Mambu noted that if the police have any evidence of extortion of money by his monitors, he will ensure that they face the law.

In his response, Massie Bah said he was not fighting the coalition, neither was he undermining the free health care programme but that the rumours about the three monitors extorting money from pharmacies was given to him by Brima Sheriff of Amnesty International, and he assured the press and Charles Mambu that he will ensure that he produces evidence from Kabala to prove that the three persons extorted money from pharmacies.

Gibrill Massie Bah further stated he never interrogated or arrested the three persons but that their arrest was done by police officers attached to the Rogbaneh police station.

Massie Bah ended by expressing his disappointment at the public notice issued out by the police attributing the arrest of the monitors to him, saying the police didn’t know what they were doing.
