Theirs is not simply being malevolent
People who are out to destroy the reputation and character of others do not act out of simple malevolence. More often than not there is a calculated plan which precedes their action and that is to make the victim of their treacherous actions become generally unaccepted in society. Many of them work for the government and have a way of collecting their reward one way or the other. (Photo: Dr. Sama Banya)
I read the letter that was purported to have been written by Maada Bio to Captain Valentine Strasser about Brigadier Kelly Conteh then the Chief of Defense Staff with utter dismay and disbelief. Some things about the letter simply did not add up, especially in the prevailing circumstances of the time. There were inconsistencies which soon inspired me to take a second look at the contents.
Why was Maada Bio writing from the Army headquarters in Cockrill and using the title of Brigadier at a time when he was not? Although he was promoted to the rank of deputy chairman of the NPRC after the ignominious departure of captain SAJ Musa, his office was still in Tower Hill and he was still captain. Therefore in the unlikelihood that he wrote that letter he was still just a captain. He became Brigadier only after the departure of Kelly Conteh as CDS.
There is always a motive to such peoples’ actions especially those that appear to create disaffection and this is where this 80 year old fool is putting both his feet where angels would fear to tread. The author of the fabrication sees Maada Bio as a front runner in the race for the flagship bearer position of the opposition SLPP and one who would be a very strong and credible challenger to President Ernest Bai Koroma’s bid for a second term. This way the author hopes to enhance the prospects of the incumbent President. He would be following in the footsteps of the managing editor and owner of the Standard Times newspaper who came up with a similar anti SLPP propaganda over the Libyan rice gift. But why should the newspaper continue with this dirty trick even as IBM Kamara describes himself as the acting managing editor?
There is also the uncalled for story of a reporter of the Atomic newspaper who wrote that AIG Lengor made disparaging remarks after the President had nominated AIG Munu as the new Inspector General of Police. Morie Lengor is one of those senior police officers who is hardly ever in the news and yet has a reputation for effectiveness and efficiency. Even when he acted as Inspector General during the brief absence of Brima Acha Kamara then the substantive I.G. his demenour was quite unassuming. Besides no one told him at anytime that he would succeed Acha Kamara.
In the era of Siaka Stevens several of his ministers (including me) acted in turn as Vice President in the absence of the substantive holders of the post. When the time came Stevens appointed Francis Minah. Because Lengor acted as IG even when Munu was at base and now that Munu not he is the new IG he was expected to grumble or express his disappointment in any other way. And although he did not, a story still had to be concocted to discredit the young man. Unfortunately for the malevolent Atomic newspaper reporter Lengor’s character and reputation are far above the credibility and wicked intentions of a charlatan. I would strongly advise Lengor NOT TO go to the IMC but to consult a Solicitor. There must be a way to deal with characters like that reporter.
