Africell extends support to Port Loko
Zakat (alms giving) is one of the pillars of Islam which Africell has fulfilled. The Muslim Community in Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone is the first to benefit in this year’s Ramadan gesture from Africell. The company donated five bags of rice, one goat, one hundred prayer mats, one hundred bundles of pure water, one hundred bundles of assorted drinks, sixty beach umbrellas, and two hundred and fifty Holy Quran on Saturday 21st August 2010 at the Port Loko Central Mosque. The company also provided food for the Muslim Community to break fast.
Addressing the gathering, Africell’s Head of Intelligence and Research, Abdul Sannoh said the gesture is part of their corporate and social responsibility, and also to show how much the company care, not only for its subscribers but the wider public. He informed the gathering about their two Ramadan offers which include Prayer Time and Holy Quran Recitation, adding that subscribers who want to access the Quranic recitation should dial 7100 and listen to the instructions, select any one amongst the 114 ‘Surahs’ in the Holy Quran. “Those who want to access the Prayer Times should send a blank SMS to 7120,” he said and added that SMS in the two offers cost 10units. Mr. Sannoh said at the end of the Ramadan the company will hold a raffle draw for two lucky winners who will get a full Hajj package including travel and accommodation in the Holy Land of Mecca.
The Head of Research and Intelligence reiterated the fact that these are some of the reasons why Africell continues to be number one for all the reasons. He urged the Muslims to make use of the ongoing promotion by sending a blank SMS to 777 costing 8 units so that they stand a chance to win Le20m and other attractive prices.
The Port Loko District Imam, Alhaji Ibrahim Sorie Conteh thanked Africell for a job well done. He confessed that the company came at the right time when the entire fasting population is in dare need of such a tremendous support. He appealed to the company to help them construct small Mosques that will benefit more Muslims in Port Loko.
Councilor Ibrahim S. Bangura noted that they have heard a lot about the good image of Africell. He commended the company for a job well done, and assured that the materials provided will be used for its intended purpose.
Alhaji Maulana Sankoh thanked the Almighty Allah for sending Africell to extend its little profit to Port Loko. He said it is a great blessing to receive such a gesture two years in a row, and prayed that Allah will continue to extend more profit to Africell. Other speakers include, Pa Osman Bangura, the Regent Chief and Shiek Foday Kamara. The event was climaxed with a great fist to break fast and candies released from a canon as a fulfillment of Prophet Mohamed’s distribution of Thermal to the Muslims in those to break fast.
