Ambassador Bockari Stevens hailed by SLOOFA President in Texas

The President of the newly formed organization, Sierra Leone Overseas Old Footballers Association, (SLOOFA) Mr. Patrick Dangawalli, has said that Ambassador Bockari Stevens is making waves in Washington D.C for his non-stop answering calls from the Sierra Leone Community all across the United States.  In his drift to meet with Sierra Leoneans at any environment and anytime, the Ambassador has proved to us not only by his Diplomatic mettle, but also his great sense of nationalism. He patriotically likes to participate in all Sierra Leone functions across the United States, he said. (Photo: Patrcik Dangawalli welcoming Ambassador Stevens)

The SLOOFA executive was formally inaugurated at the Regency Hotel in Yonkers City in New York on July 30th this year.  The SLOOFA president made his remarks soon after he returned from the host state in New York on August 5th in a bid to acknowledge and honor sponsors, participants, and organizers of this year’s tournament for their valuable contribution. He applauded gratitude to His Excellency, the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Bockari Stevens, for his informally supporting the community all across the United States to ensure that Sierra Leoneans stay on track while targeting to meet our heritage goals in America. He describes the Ambassador as “the people’s Ambassador, who, he asserted, does not have any form of a discriminatory attitude.    Irrespective of his political affiliations, this Ambassador serves his people with an open mind and open door policy system,” he said.

Mr. Dangawalli expressed general appreciation to the host, New York members, the fourteen states participants, and all those who support them in one way or the other.  Special thanks to sponsors of Texas Sierra Stars, the Deputy Mayor of Rowlett in Texas, Mr. Patrick Jackson, the APC  Dallas chapter Secretary General, Mr. Daniel Kanu, and the Secretary General of Islamic Association of African communuty in Dallas Fort-Worth, Mr Amadu Jalloh, all of whom have contributed immensely to the team’ successful participation in this year’s tournament.  He noted that his club participation was a huge success in part due to the help of the said persons.

As he continued speaking in his press briefing, the SLOOFA President ascertained that forming various soccer clubs is ideal because it will bring us together closer to our shared goal of helping each other, helping our retired players back home, and even providing an opportunity to help the youth broaden their sports horizon. This is a significant part of development in the United States.  He urged Sierra Leones to join and give their support.

While answering questions from me about his strategic plans for success, Mr. Dangawalli said that, the Sierra Leone story is all about extraordinary people meeting the challenges of their times with determination, courage, and vision.  From being one of the heroes of Leone Stars to be a hero of old footballers association at the moment, and as an insightful social leader, Patrick Dangawalli is determined to ensure a resounding success in SLOOFA.

Some of his strategies he catalogued are to ensure that as many as old footballers to register for the club and provide them with life insurance.  He is working closely with the executive branch that is responsible for the annual tournament to set up rules and regulations that will put in place so that future tournaments will yield a successful result.

Brief discussion about the 50th Anniversary

In another engagement, Mr. Dangawalli disclosed his discussions with the Ambassador about the forthcoming Sierra Leone independence anniversary in which he said Mr. Stevens invites his organization to take part.  In response to the Ambassadors’ invitation, the SLOOFA president declared that the Director of Sports, Mr. Bai Kabia, along with the Chairman of Old Footballers Association in Freetown, Mr. Umaru Deen Sesay, has also requested his organization’s presence in the country on the 50th anniversary. During the Independence Day anniversary, every Sierra Leonean desire to inject patriotism into different ways.  As president of soccer organization, I will make sure that our plans to participate in commemorating our freedom from the British colonial rule world certainly be on course.
