Marginalisation at Lands Ministry ‘Permanent Secretary named’
Reliable source reaching SEM intimates that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands and Country Planning, Mr. Jacob Quee has been marginalizing senior members within the ministry in the allocation of office spaces.
When SEM reporter confronted him with the allegation, Mr. Quee admitted that the matter was an administrative one and so he was not in the mood to discuss office matters with journalists.
He referred to himself as having worked in the Ministry of Information before and therefore knew much about the way journalists conduct their practice. “So if you write about me I will write and defend myself, Mr. Quee told this reporter.
Our reporter who visited the Lands Ministry 3rd Floor Youyi Building saw some office equipment scattered along at the corridor while others were found in the kitchen and office toilets. When this reporter contacted one of the lands officers working under the department of Country Planning and the Environment, he was told that the PS and his minister do not recognize the relevance of the Country Planning Department in the Ministry of Lands.
The official further disclosed that when the Lands Ministry was first relocated at the Youyi Building they were occupying over eight offices space at the East Wing on the 3rd floor where the office of SLIPA is presently occupying. From there, the official went on, they where transferred to the West Wing which has less office spaces, providing only for the Director, Deputy Director, the office of the Supervisor and a room for their field officers.
He further disclosed that even the few offices that were allocated to them in the Country Planning department some has been taken away from them through the directive of the PS. The offices taken include the Field Officers office, the Map Reading room.
“The office of the Country Planning Supervisor has also been closed down,” the officer said.
Our source further disclosed that the closing of these offices has affected the work of the department, as most planning documents have been discovered missing including important maps of the country.
The source stated that when the officers contacted Mr. Quee, the administrative head of the ministry about their plight, his response was he had nothing to about the situation as the minister was aware of the plight of the office.
Our source further disclosed at some occasion the PS commented that if they though the office space was a reason not to work effectively they should come and share office with him.
Our source also maintained that the whole Country Planning Department presently does not have a drawing office while important maps of the country have been destroyed.
