The London School of Journalism (LSJ) has awarded a ‘Diploma with Distinction’ to one of Sierra Leone’s finest journalists, Abdul Karim Kabia aka Abdul Fonti.

The diploma was awarded to the journalist after successfully completing an eighteen month’s course in ‘Journalism and New swriting’ at the LSJ.

“We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded a Diploma with Distinction following completion of your Journalism and News writing course. Many congratulations on this achievement,” the college administration writes in a letter addressed to Kabia.

According to the tutors and course director at LSJ, “Abdul Karim Kabia proved himself as an exceptional student throughout the entire course”.

“I’ve enjoyed working with you and wish you every success with your career in journalism. Your writing areas are well-established and you can confidently expand into other areas of general freelancing without qualms. Your standard of journalism is at a good level and you would be wise to keep-to-date with changes in the media” tutor Ken Ashton said in a congratulatory message written to Kabia.

The veteran British journalist disclosed that the revered Sierra Leonean journalist Kabia worked well through the course, adding that he has the ability now to tackle anything that comes along.

In a brief chat with Abdul Karim Kabia, he expressed elation over his success, describing it as a milestone in his journalism career.

The British-trained journalist used the forum as an opportunity to express profound appreciation to his sponsor, (who prefers not to be named but who Kabia is so proud of) “for single-handedly sponsoring me throughout the LSJ academic course”.

Publisher of the Awareness Times Newspaper, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, has described Abdul Karim Kabia (who is one of the most senior editors at Awareness Times newspaper) as a young man with vast potentials. According to Blyden, she is looking forward to handing over editorial duties back to Kabia, who had been on study leave.

Abdul Karim Kabia (Abdul Fonti), a proud member of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), joined the journalism profession with the advice of a veteran Sierra Leonean journalist, Ibrahim Karim-Sei, in 2006. He started off with the African Standard Newspaper as a reporter and later joined the Awareness Times Newspaper as an Editor in November 2007.
