MP named in cannabis scam

Member of Parliament for Songo, Hon. Claude Kamanda, is alleged to have used thugs to cart away quantity of cannabis after it was arrested by police personnel attached to the Songo Police Station last Tuesday July 6th 2010.

Police sources disclosed that Hon. Kamanda went with thugs and seized the police diary. Sources intimated that the thugs were able to disappear with the police diary and the impounded cannabis sativa because the police were only six in number when the MP and his thugs stormed the police station.

Sources further disclosed that reinforcement was later sent to the Songo Police Station but the MP and his thugs were nowhere to be seen. Residents of Songo were very much surprised over the action of the MP and were calling on the Inspector General of police, Brima Acha Kamara to bring the Honourable Member of Parliament to book as he is expected to set a good example as law maker.

An aide to the Local Unit Commander of Masiaka Police Station, Mr. Yayah Deensie, told this medium that the parliamentarian has since tendered his unreserved apology over the ugly incident but said it was not clear as to what will stop the police to press charges against the MP and his thugs. The MP was spotted in parliament the day after the incident.

When contacted to throw light on the matter, the operation officer confirmed the incident and said the matter was under police investigation.

He narrated how police raided diamba farms at Songo and its environs that led to bags of the illegal substance impounded and taken to the Songo police Station for investigation.
