Mr Express 6-25-10
The Ban Ki-Moon Launch of SLBC
Hey-hey-hey, Mr. Express feels quite sure that the regular journalists in the country are not akin to report rather clumsy, intricate aspects of a story. But tell you what, those are the ones this very perfect gentleman called Mr. Express is interested in and I think you are interested too even if you don’t admit it dear reader. The truth is, I want to let it pass but I would rather serve my conscience and let you in on these bits.
Listen to the bits as they came:
Late and disorganized: the Sierra Leone traditional habit of black-man-time came into play, the programme was slated for 11am but guess what? The programme came on two hours later at 1:00pm! All the guests that were seated near-by Mr. Express, especially my white brothers soaked and cooked in their sweats as they waited to repeatedly listen to announcement after announcements by the then very wobbly SLBC Acting Director General apologizing for “starting late, but we hope to start the programme in 15 minutes†but the 15 minutes only materialized after two bloody hours.
Embarrassing Diplomats and High Level Guests:Â this was really when the whole crowd mumbled in rhythmic telepathy: diplomats and other very important guests that had come two hours earlier and took their seats in the front rows were asked at about 45 minutes before the programme to take the back seats as the front rows were reserved for Ministers of Government.
Can you beat that?! Just why would they do such a thing, why wouldn’t they have put reserve postings on those seats to indicate their use? A very much irritated white blonde diplomat questioned in apt agitation and consternation. It was indeed quite a scene as the diplomats and other very important people filed out of their deposed seats to take back seats; some didn’t even seat anymore but guess what, the curious Mr. Express just bowed his head knowing very much that such was not uncommon with government functions in the country. That passed anyway but more were to come.
Notorious Ex-rebel Guarding Ban Ki-Moon: Mr. Express’ eyes blinked a thousand times to make sure if it were the popular and notorious junta rebel now recruited in the Sierra Leone Police as Presidential Guard to Ernest Koroma that was serving as guard for the traveling diplomat, United Nation’s No. 1 man Mr. Ban Ki-Moon.
Someone close to the UN boys in the country hummed in Mr. Express’ ear “what point do they want to prove in doing this? And is said I dunno my dear Mr. …
Protocol Breach: did anybody take note of the fact that Mr. President arrived first at the programme before his deputy Mr. Vice President and other line Ministers arrived?  Â
The Hon. Mr. Vice President just walked face down up stage not knowing whether to apo… lo…gise, keep a straight face or face the audience. I think he was biting his lips anyway-whatever that meant.
