Shooting Stars are to play Gambia U-20 away in Banjul on the 24th July 2010. The young stars held their senior team Leone Stars to a 1-1 draw last Friday.
On Saturday they engaged the Waterloo Community team at the Waterloo Football field. In that match Shooting Stars defeated the Waterloo team 3-0 at full time. The first goal was scored by Donald Wellington (Korbor Korbor) Abdul Sesay (Abdul Sky) made it two few minutes to the end of the first half. Donald made it 3-0 midway into the second half. The match ended 3-0 in favour of Shooting Stars.
After the match the assistant coach of the team commenting on critics asking why they are playing friendly matches with low rated teams, coach Abu Sankoh said the friendly matches they are playing with the senior team is quite enough for them to face any team. On the low rated teams he said they played against some of these teams to know their scoring power and ball possession.
Besides, he said before facing Algeria U-20 they only played friendly matches against Kabala, Moyamba etc. but when they faced Algeria they performed well. He went on to say that it is not who you play friendly against though it is necessary but how committed the team is.
He cited the friendly matches Brazil played before going for the world cup with teams that did not qualify for the tournament.
Meanwhile two foreign based players have joined the Shooting Stars training from England. The two are Abass Wurie who plays for Greenwich University in England. Abass an attacker attended Bo School and Grammar School before heading for England to further his education. Ali Wurie a right out back attended Bo School and Prince of Wales and later headed for England. The two players met with the FA President Nahim Kadie in flight on their way to Sierra Leone.
According to them they asked the consent of the FA President to train with the U-20 which he referred them to the technical team. Abass told this press that he is in college with two other half Sierra Leoneans who do play football but promised to convince them to play for Sierra Leone. The two are the sons of former Education Minister, Dr. Alpha Wurie.
