Salone Gets ECOWAS Passport

The Sierra Leone Immigration Department on Wednesday started issuing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Passport.

This will put an end to the issuance of the country’s national passport. The Chief Immigration Officer, Alpha Kholifa Koroma, told journalists on Tuesday that the “issuance of the Sierra Leone-ECOWAS passport was part of the country’s commitment to an ECOWAS protocol.

Mr. Koroma said that the Sierra Leone- ECOWAS Passport had both sub-regional and international recognition which he said would enable Sierra Leoneans to travel within Western African countries easily as well as use it to secure jobs and other opportunities.

But the Immigration boss said the Sierra Leone passports currently in use were still valid until their stipulated expiry dates.
