Concerned Sierra Leoneans write on inquest
A group of unidentified people dubbed as concerned Sierra Leoneans have written a letter commenting on the setting up of an inquest to look into the death of Bambay Kamara and others, executed during the reign of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC). Dear Fellow Sierra Leoneans,
Our country has suffered long term of senseless war that caused untold suffering on our people and the scars and memories still hunt us all as a nation.
Even as our people are encouraged to forget the memories of yesterday, we as a nation were hopeful that never will we get back to the things and events that exacerbated our ten years of darkness and backwardness in this our beloved Sierra Leone.
Whilst we were hoping to let sleeping dogs lie, the government of the All People’s Congress has issued a press statement that has caused panic all over the nation. They have decided as a government to set up an inquest to investigate the death of criminal Bambay Kamara and others by arresting former NPRC operatives at that time. Whilst we agree it is good to prevent impunity , it is also very much in place to uphold peace and tranquillity in a situation that could be volatile.
What is interesting though is that the inquest targets prominent leaders of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party and the south-easterners. Example, John Oponjo Benjamin, leader of the S.L.P.P, Rtd Brig. Julius Maada Bio (Leading aspirant for the flag bearer of S.L.P.P, and the major target of the inquest because of his unstoppable popularity in the country.)
The S.L.P.P has also in a press release said that they as a Party will not cooperate with the government for such an action. Majority of the civil society organizations have warned the government to stop action. A popular opinion of the people in the country do not approve of such inquest, thinking that it will cause chaos and disability in the nation. We the concerned citizens of our sweet Salone will want to add our voices to the others who are opposed to the inquest that we stand in solidarity with them to condemn such move that has the propensity to undermine peace in Sierra Leone. We want the whole world to know that, we will resist such inquest that will target our leaders and our region. We see it as a witch hunt and a politically motivated move to destabilize and intimidate south-easterners for the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections in the country. We want the international community to know that we will not allow our nation to crumble again in disunity.
Finally, we want our brothers and sisters in the south-east of Sierra Leone to wake up and stand for their right, to resist the intentions of this useless government from perpetuating undemocratic moves that will destroy our hard won peace. This battle line is drawn, and we should fight to the spill of our blood, this the only way into the future. The plan of the APC to put the SLPP to silent and abysmal darkness has been exposed and so we must fight, fight for our leaders, fight for our region, fight for our nation and fight for our party. So wake up now, from your slumber and fight for your future. You are protected and have the greatest support in this cause.
God bless us all and God bless Sierra Leone.
