Investigating Teenage Pregnancy Matter at Rokupr Wusie

It is still a taboo among traditional families in Sierra Leone for anyone to report a sexual offense to the Police except to local authorities at the rural areas who most time compromised such crucial matters at the disadvantage of helpless teenage girls.

This reminds our reporter about an incident that occurred recently at Kasseh Chiefdom, Rokupr Wusie in Port Loko District where 22 years old Daniel Bangura impregnated a 13 year old pupil attending the King Fahad Primary School.

To the dismay and shock of many, the elder brother of the victim, Alpha Bangura is presently in dilemma for reporting news about his sister’s unwanted pregnancy in the media from some influential members of the family who are going to be named in our subsequent editions.

Sierra Express Media (SEM) has mounted this media campaign not because family members of the victim are allegedly working clandestinely to compromise such a humanitarian issue but also to protect the young lady against stigmatization and early school dropout.

What is most disheartening in the whole episode is that, the elder brother of the victim, Alpha Bangura who is also attending one of the senior schools in Freetown complained the matter with the motive to have lasting solution on the unfortunate incident but in the end, he become regretted to join what he described as a losing battle on his own side.

We are therefore calling on the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO’S) to swiftly intervene and bring the perpetrator, Daniel Bangura, who is also a would be WASSCE candidate, to book.
