Massive Corruption In Mosquito Net Distribution

Many Sierra Leoneans in the past two weeks have been raising serious concern over the manner in which the mosquito nets provided by the government through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation were distributed across the country. A distribution which, according to majority of them, was merged with a lot of corruption and irregularities that resulted to majority of Sierra Leoneans not benefiting from the good will of the government.

It could be recalled that few weeks ago, treated mosquito nets were supposed to have been distributed in each household across the country in order to help in the fight against malaria.

But on the contrary, the good intention of the government was cut short by selfish individuals who diverted what supposed to have been a national cake into their personal and selfish use.

A research conducted by this medium revealed that, those that benefited genuinely from the distribution were not even up to forty (40) percent of the targeted population. The reason, according to our research, ranges from the method used in the distribution, of which, bed nets were stationed in health centers where people go to collect them after been registered in their homes. A registration that was centered on friends and relatives of those doing the registration.

Another reason for the very low number of beneficiaries is the fact that authorities within the system diverted these nets into their selfish and ill- motivated use. This claim is justified few days ago when the same bed nets that were meant to be distributed to the ordinary Sierra Leonean were caught in huge quantity along the Kambia Border trying to be smuggled out of the country to neighboring Guinea for sale.

We are therefore as a responsible medium, watching with all our eyes and minds to see what comes out of that investigation by the ACC.

Our eyes are wide open ooh
