Free agent Kargbo (32) has agreed a year deal with the Portuguese second division side with an option of renewal and is expected to start the new campaign this Saturday against SC Freamunde.

‘It was so nice to see that the Atlético supporters appreciated my talent and experience and after two games in pre-seasons they are already applauding me,’ said Kargbo.

‘To see those fans clapping for me was quite special and hopefully now I can give them joy by helping the team win promotions and trophies,” Kargbo said while talking to Football Sierra Leone.

Kargbo’s former clubs are Old Edwardians FC, Feyenoord Rotterdam, RWD Molenbeek, Sporting Charleroi, Malatyaspor, FC Brussels and Willem II.

Ex-Sierra Leonean skipper Kargbo was among 15 players and officials who have been suspended indefinitely over allegations of match-fixing that have left Sierra Leoneans fuming.

It’s not the first time Ibrahim Kargbo has been suspended, he and USA-based striker Kei Kamara were suspended from international duty indefinitely in 2012, and the decision was again jointly taken by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and the Ministry of Sports.

The versatile defender has played more than 100 matches for the Dutch side before moving to FC Baku when his contract in August 2013 expired, he then rejoined his former team FC Brussels but decided to terminate his contract a month later.

Kargbo was expected to sign for English club Swindon Town after his successful trial in July 2014 but the deal collapsed after the joint statement released by the Sierra Leone Sport Ministry and Sierra Leone Football Association onalleged match-fixing.

He has embarked on continuing his career and was part of the Atlético Clube de Portugal side that lost 2-0 to Charlton FC and Benfica respectively in their pre-season games in few days ago.
