Global Fund Rescues the Vulnerable

It is no secret that the HIV/AIDS pandemic has been adversely affecting citizens, especially children, many of whom have been orphaned and rendered vulnerable.

These Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) are in large numbers in Sierra Leone and the world at large.

In a bid to mitigate the impact of the disease on particularly the OVC, the Global Fund, through the National AIDS Secretariat, NAS, and the Child Fund, has donated a huge quantity of nutritional support to over a hundred OVC and PLHIVS (People Living with HIV/AIDS)

Child Fund Sierra Leone (CFSL) recently distributed the nutritional support to the PLHIVS and OVCs at their 79 Gerihun Road Office in Bo.

The project coordinator, Gabriel Lombi in an interview told this reporter that during the first round of distribution in early December, eighty bags of rice and cooking condiments were distributed to PLHIVS and OVC in the Valunia Chiefdom, Bo District, adding that the second round of distribution towards the end of December benefited seven PLHIV and hundred and twenty-two OVC.

Mr. Lombi said in both distribution exercises each PLHIV and OVC received a fifty Kilogram bag of rice, two gallons of pure palm oil, thirty cups of beans, thirty sachets of powdered milk, half a bag of onions and a packet of iodized salt.
