27 UDM members declare for SLPP

27 members of the United Democratic Movement Party (UDM) have defected to the main opposition the Sierra Leone People’s Party, (SLPP) on Friday March 23.

Making their declaration at the SLPP’s headquarters, Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown they said as former Executive and Non-Executive Members of the UDM coming from 105, 106 and 107 constituencies their decision to quit the UDM was unanimous to say the least as they saw nothing fruitful in terms of quality in that party.

They said they came to join the SLPP because they see a future in them to clinch the presidency of state in the November polls. The defected members said they discovered that the UDM has an undercover motive running in the devil’s advocate for the ruling All People’s Congress, a condition which they said challenges their independence and neutrality as a party.

They said the SLPP has a record of improved educationists who improve the level of education in the country to a greater percent compare to now when education is going down the drains albeit cheap politics.

They said the economy under President Koroma’s watch is in shambles dragging to a 17% inflation rate. They express belief that the SLPP has the wherewithal to change the tide of affairs in the country that would improve things for the better. Executive members of the SLPP including the flag bearer, Julius Maada Bio and his running mate Dr. Kaddie Sesay who made statement in the acceptance ceremony.
