The Paramount Chief of Biriwa Chiefdom yesterday was frog marched into cells of Pademba Road Prison after being refused bail by Magistrate J.O Wellington of Freetown Court No 2.

PC Dr. Alpha Madseray Sheriff yesterday made his first appearance before Magistrate Wellington on two count charges of refusing without reasonable cause to handover the staff of office of the Paramount Chief, contrary to section 30 (2) (a) of the chieftaincy act No 10 of 2009 and obstructing the provincial secretary, contrary to section 30(2) (b) of the chieftaincy act No. 10 of 2009 Wednesday made his first court appearance.

The accused, prior to his court appearance was in cells of the police owing to the nature of the complaint against him.

P.C. Dr. Alpha Madseray Sheriff of Karina Village Biriwa Chiefdom Bombali District, after listening to the charges against him, pleaded not guilty and was later refused bail on grounds unexplained.

In the particulars of the offence, it is stated that the incident occurred in 2007.

That the accused was deposed and was required to officially hand over the staff of Paramount Chief to the provincial secretary Abdulai Kamara but refused.

It is disclosed that P.C Sheriff (accused) was elected during periods of defunct SLPP rule.

He was however deposed shortly after the APC took over governance in 2007.

Public’s opinion indicate that the arrest and court prosecution of the former Paramount Chief came owing to extreme political interferences.
